BEST OF YEAR. BEST ACTOR. BEST FOREIGN FILM: “BAKERMAN” – full feature film

A lonely BAKER with a troubled past moonlights as a serial killer but takes a detour when he meets a beautiful foreign girl who changes his life

“Vadsholdt makes this movie work, but without the brutally honest performance by Tilif as Mozan, we might not, as viewers, be able to allow Jens his redemption. And what began as a meditation on the repetitive monotony of life and evolved into an exploration of repressed violence, becomes a heartbreakingly honest expression of love overcoming loneliness.” – Paul Brian McCoy

“BAKERMAN is a Nordic “Falling Down”.
A film that is as shocking with its vigilante story as it is captivating with its determination….” – CPH:PIX Film Festival

“..best feature submitted (in competition) to the festival,
A wonderful film and a valuable piece of socially conscious Nordic Noir filmmaking. An indication of exceptional work to come…you were up against some extraordinary films, each phenomenal in their separate ways. For me the merge of social consciousness and audience awareness in “Bakerman” is what made it such a cinematic achievement.” – Dingle International Film Festival / Programmer & Screenwriter – Brian MacEvilly

“… really liked BAKERMAN and the sinister twist you give to the superhero tropes lingering in pop culture right now and was amazed by Mikkel Vandsholt’s performance oscillating between touching introspection and vulnerability and these violent outbursts that are both shocking
and eerily relatable.” – Munich International Film Festival

SYNOPSIS:
========

Never corner a baker…

Jens (Mikkel Vadsholdt) has accepted far too much for too long. Being the shy night-owl he is, he keeps to himself, but the world will not let him be. The new master baker’s quality starts
slackening, and when a bunch of yobs one day smash the window of Jens’s car, he takes one of them out. Intoxicated by his own new unexpressed vigour, Jens comes out of his shell, but the destructive driving force leads him towards a free fall.

Headed by the always solid Mikkel Vadsholdt (The Sunfish), who here manages to arouse our empathy in a role of a reserved man who has difficulty coping with the light of day.

* REVIEW 1: “Cinema Scandinavia”

Bakerman is typically Scandinavian; dark, straight-to-the-point, and dark in comedy. It’s beautifully made, thought-provoking and a must-see..”

* REVIEW 2: UK Film Review – MJ Simpson

“…Bakerman is a meditation on the nature of heroes and heroism. Jens feels like a hero when he starts taking out the city’s lowlifes, and especially when he rescues Mozan… Even the film’s title is an allusion to heroics: he’s not Superman or Batman or Iron Man or Spider-Man, he’s Bakerman, it’s just about decency, understanding and caring. We don’t need heroes, we just need decent human beings. Opening yourself up to someone and letting them into your life – and letting them let you into their life – is heroic enough…”

* REVIEW 3: 10K Bullets – Exploring the World of Cinema

“..The direction is rock solid and then it comes to the visuals they do a superb job maintaining the mood…”

* REVIEW 4: UK, You’ve got red on you

“The acting performances are also worthy of praise. Mikkel Vadsholt does a solid job in portraying a conflicted character who says little but still offers intrigue. It’s not an easy role to play and a lesser actor could have created a totally unsympathetic character. But Vadsholt’s portrayal of a man very much alone in the world is impressive. Then we have Siir Tilif who plays Mozan..she a beautiful on screen presence, she also manages to convey a sense of vulnerability but also inner strength that is a joy to watch…”
