Blenheim Steps…one of the most iconic pop/rock bands of the mid ’80s, with a string of hits and two massive albums, (who can forget their singles ‘MayDay’, ‘Fortress’, ‘Loving That Girl’, ‘The Ties That Bind Us’, to name but a few), were set for global domination when, at the height of their fame and in the middle of a world tour, they split.
Rumours were rife. The word was that Jules, the tortured singer/songwriter and creator of the band, had walked out in Sydney.
Fast forward to 2015. Jules is living with his new partner in a cottage in the Northumberland National Park. He has been ‘clean’ for 10 months. It’s his birthday. Time to heal old wounds…time to patch up old friendships…time to celebrate the band that will forever be…BLENHEIM STEPS.
This “vile comedy”, an original play with music, takes a wry look at the 1980’s pop arena, charts the band’s chequered back-story and subsequent demise, focussing on this stormy night in Northumberland when the Blenheim Steps phoenix will rise from the ashes of musical oblivion to enjoy a reunion concert as a fitting finale…….MAYBE.
