For some years, I had it in mind to do something with my friend Kate Clinton, and over many years, I asked and beckoned. Her work mirrors my own, I thought, and wouldn’t it be fun and fine to do something together? At the end of Women’s Week, 2014, we agreed to figure out something to do in concert, and we would do it the next year during Women’s Week 2015. In the months that followed, we set the date, we set the time and place, and, right up to the wire, the format of questions and answers moderated by our mutual friend, Vicki Shaw. Word went out, and tickets began to sell. We decided to premier this event in the middle of the day for one hour in the big room at the Crown and Anchor, Kate’s home venue there in Provincetown. It sold out, we showed up, and everyone had such a good time. There were moments of high comedy and deep seriousness, all combining into a premier episode of Girl Tawk … Cris and Kate, Kate and Cris, in conversation. Enjoy – Cris
Historical and hysterical, fast and furious, a look back and a look forward, musical and comical – an hour of two good old friends talking with each other and taking questions from the audience.
Cris Williamson is an American feminist singer-songwriter, who achieved fame as a recording artist, and who was a pioneer as a visible lesbian political activist, during a time when few who were not connected to the Lesbian community were aware of Gay and Lesbian issues. Williamson’s music and insight has served as a catalyst for change in the creation of women-owned record companies in the 1970s. Using her musical talents, networking with other lesbian artists of musical quality, and her willingness to represent those who did not yet feel safe in speaking for themselves, Williamson is known by many in the LGBT community for her contributions, both artistically, and politically, and continues to be a role model for a younger generation hoping to address concerns and obtain recognition for achievements specific to people who have historically been ignored. criswilliamson.com
