Here is the visual response to a collaboration with UEA Creative Writing student, Caitlin Arthur, a short 4 week project running alongside our major project at Norwich University of the Arts, 3rd year Illustration.
Below is the text received from Caitlin Arthur, exploring the ways people edit themselves online:
My Self-Summary: I’m not completely sure why I’m doing this; I suck at dating but maybe I will be better online. I’m a twenty-seven year old receptionist who is currently single much to my friend’s despair. In my group of friends I am always thought of as the reliable one never having a drama of her own always available as a shoulder to cry on. I have hundreds of manga inspired outfits that I never have the guts to wear; hopefully someday someone will realize that there is more to me than most people see. I have hidden depths believe me.
My Self-Summary: I love animals and am hoping to get a pet at some point in the future. I am a fun loving girl looking for someone who will make me laugh. I am always open to new experiences and love talking about literature and film. Music makes me happy and I love dancing around my kitchen whilst cooking. I’m not good at describing myself on paper but if you want to know more about me message me I’ll tell you anything you want to know, I have nothing to hide.
What I’m doing with my life: Working as a secretary (deletes writes executive assistant) at Clifford Chance in London, it’s not my dream job (pause) but it’s really satisfying knowing that I’m doing the job really well.
I’m really good at: Nothing (deletes this) Being supportive to my friends and although I’m not great at it I love drawing
Six things I couldn’t do without:
Manga (deleted and replaced by books)
On a typical Friday night I am:
Usually watching Netflix and eating chocolate wondering why I don’t have anything better to do on a Friday night (Deletes this as it sounds way too much like she is a loser)
Relaxing after the week at home with a film or having a quiet night out with my friends discussing the week and making plans for the weekend. Friday night is my favourite night of the week because it is so full of potential, anything could happen during the weekend and you have no idea what it might be. A whole two days of unexplored potential await you.
You should message me if:
You find me in anyway attractive and think we might get on with each other (deletes it muttering about how desperate she sounds)
You want someone fun. I want something serious with someone who isn’t serious someone that can laugh and joke but is also capable of sincerity. If you like goofiness and think I sound intriguing message me. I am interested in finding friendship as well as something more and so even if you don’t find me attractive but think that we would get on well as friends then get in touch, you’ll never know what could happen if you don’t try. I hope to hear from you soon.
