Called a “smart movement-based work” (DC Theatre Scene) enjoy Beauty and the Beat at home with a video from Baltimore’s Charm City Fringe Festival, October 2019.
Beauty and the Beat is a surprising comedy inspired by Tom Waits song “What’s He Building in There.” Neighbor, the guy who lives next door, never waves. His style of interaction becomes the focal point of gossip, as four friends weave through dysfunctional actions in a hilarious—and subversive—stir. Featuring Ken Hays as Neighbor with Carrie Monger, Charlie Maybee, Kelsey Rohr and Becca Weiss.

Book, Choreography: Jane Franklin;
inspired by true events and by the Tom Waits song “What’s He Building in There?,”
Mister Rogers quotes from a remixed version by John D. Boswell for PBS Digital Studios.

Performers: Ken Hays, Charlie Maybee, Carrie Monger, Kelsey Rohr, Rebecca Weiss
Music: Frankum & Frankumjay, Patrick Leiberkind, Setuniman, David Schulman,
“Won’t You Be My Neighbor” by Fred Rogers performed by Kristen Williams,
“My Girl” by Ronald White, Smokey Robinson;
